The european beech is a great subject for bonsai. A mature beech is one of the largest and most beautiful trees in the landscape. The leaves reduce well through root pruning and it provides excellent autumn colour.
Beech trees do not have dormant buds. This is an important consideration when hard pruning. If you cut back too hard, the tree may die as there may be no buds to produce new shoots. However, you will be provided with a clean, open crown with no epicormics.
